Make Sure You're Up to Date
Check Your Group's Documents
Is your Buy Nothing Private Group connected to the most current documents and resources? Here's how to check this out.

If your group is ready to make any updates, visit our Update Your Group page.
Look at your Buy Nothing materials, meaning your group description, 10 Rules, 3 questions, and any posts linking people to foundational documents, etc. and ask yourself these questions:
  • 1
Do your group’s Buy Nothing materials have the original legal attribution, crediting Liesl Clark, Rebecca Rockefeller and the Buy Nothing Project and a link to www.buynothingproject.org below the original text of our document?
  • 2
If you have created a Local Variation group, do you use our copyright and then also document where your words/rules/description differ from ours, giving credit to your own individual name, and not the name of a separate entity or organization, and with no link to an outside organization or website?
  • 3
Does each link in each of your group's documents take you to a page of the Buy Nothing Project websites, www.buynothingproject.org or www.help.buynothingproject.org ?
If you answer “yes” to these questions, then you’re a Buy Nothing group and your use of Buy Nothing materials is protected by both our copyright license and trademark. If you ever hear otherwise from Facebook, contact us immediately at [email protected] so we can help defend your use of Buy Nothing materials (we don’t anticipate this ever happening, but know that we’re here if you ever need us for this!).

If you answer "no" to any of these questions, your group's materials are due for an update. We've created the simplest, easiest process we can. Visit our Update Your Group page and we'll get you updated ASAP.

If you're confused about updating your group, we’re happy to help! We want your group to be connected to Buy Nothing so we can support you and your community. Reach out to us via our Help Center Contact Us form and we'll happily review your group and help update your materials.
