How do I report a Theft
Overview
Theft is not tolerated within Buy Nothing communities. While incidents like this are not representative of the community as a whole, reports of theft are treated seriously.
Buy Nothing’s Response to Theft
The Buy Nothing Project reviews all reports of misconduct. Accounts may be restricted or removed when behavior violates the Community Commitment or Terms of Service.
What to Do
Report the Incident in the App
If a theft has occurred, submit a report through the in-app reporting tools. This allows the incident to be reviewed and documented.
Contact Law Enforcement When Appropriate
If there is immediate danger, a credible threat, or reason to believe a crime has been committed, contact local law enforcement right away.
If law enforcement confirms that charges are being brought, that information can be used to proceed with account removal where applicable.
How Reports Are Handled
- Reports are reviewed for violations of community standards
- Action may include warnings, restrictions, or account removal
- Serious or verified incidents receive priority review
Summary
Theft is a serious violation and should be reported through the app. In situations involving immediate risk or confirmed criminal activity, local law enforcement should be contacted first. Buy Nothing reviews all reports and takes action to help protect community safety.
