How do Saved Searches & Wishlists work?
Pro feature: Saved searches and wishlists are only available to Buy Nothing Pro subscribers.
Saving a Search or Wishlist Item
When you're looking for something specific, you can set up a saved search and get notified when someone posts a match. You can also add it to your public wishlist to let your community know what you're looking for, which means people might think of you when they're giving items away.
Here's how to create one:
- Tap the Saved Searches button in the Pro Shortcuts section of your dashboard. You can also find it under Settings > Saves Searches & Wishlist
- Type in what you're looking for (e.g., "children's books," "women's sneakers size 9")
- Choose one or both of the two options:
- Notify me of new matching posts - Get alerts when someone posts an item in your location(s) that matches your search term
- You can choose from any of your saved locations (Pros can set up to 5 in Settings > Locations) or select "Include shippable items from anywhere" if you're willing to pay for US shipping
- Show on my profile wishlist - Display this term as a wishlist item on your profile so others can see what you're looking for
- Notify me of new matching posts - Get alerts when someone posts an item in your location(s) that matches your search term
You don't have to turn both on. Want notifications without broadcasting it? That's fine. Just want a public wishlist without the alerts? Go for it.
How Notifications Work
When you enable notifications for a saved search, you'll get alerted in real time whenever a new post matches what you're looking for.
You'll see notifications two ways:
- In the app itself
- As a push notification on your phone (if you have the Buy Nothing app installed and notifications enabled in Settings > Preferences)
To manage your notification settings:
- Go to Settings > Preferences to turn push notifications on or off. You might also need to check your device notification settings
- You can also edit, turn off, or delete individual saved searches anytime by tapping the edit icon next to the search term
Your Wishlist
Your wishlist is visible on your profile page to all users. Setting up a wishlist helps your community know what you're looking for, so they might think of you when they're giving items away
What shows up on your wishlist:
- Any saved search term you've toggled "Show on my profile wishlist" for
