How do I create a Private Community?
How do I Create a Buy Nothing Community?
Creating a Private Community allows you to build a sharing circle for a specific group, such as your neighborhood, apartment building, workplace, or school.
Note: Creating Private Communities is a benefit for Subscribers
Steps to Create a Community
- Open the Communities Tab
- Tap the Communities icon in the bottom navigation bar and select Create a Community
- Review Host Guidelines
- Read the host agreement. By proceeding, you agree to foster an inclusive, non-discriminatory environment and stay active; communities with no activity for 6 months will be archived.
- Why? Maintaining an active, safe space ensures the community remains helpful for all members.
- Customize Your Community
- Add a Name and Description: Clearly state who the community is for (e.g., "Astoria Parents K-5").
- Upload a Cover Photo: A relevant image makes your community more inviting and easy to recognize.
- Finalize and Launch: Preview your community to ensure everything looks correct, then tap Create.
Managing Your Community
As a Community Host, you have the ability to:
- Approve or Deny Members: Manage incoming membership requests to keep the group exclusive to your intended audience.
- Invite Neighbors: Share your community link via text, email, or social media to help it grow.
- Edit or Archive: Update community details at any time or request to archive the group if it is no longer needed.
Once you've created your group, you can find it under the My Communities tab, where you can start welcoming your neighbors and managing requests.
