I’ve Been Removed From My Buy Nothing Facebook Group
Overview
Being removed from a community group can feel upsetting, and we’re sorry you’ve had this experience. Our hope is that you’re still able to stay connected with your neighbors and participate in the gift economy.
What We’re Able to Do
We want to be transparent: local Buy Nothing Facebook groups are managed independently by volunteer administrators. The Buy Nothing Project is not involved in the day-to-day administration of these groups and does not have the ability to reinstate members or override admin decisions.
Your Options Moving Forward
1. Report the Group (For Review)
If you believe your removal was unjust or inconsistent with Buy Nothing guidelines, you may submit a report for review. All reports are reviewed by our team.

2. Join the Buy Nothing App (Immediate Option)
This situation is one of the reasons we built the Buy Nothing web and mobile platform. The app offers an inclusive, equitable experience without reliance on third-party platforms.
On the app, you can:
- Start Giving and Asking immediately
- Connect with neighbors in your local area
- Participate in a platform run directly by the Buy Nothing founders

3. Create or Host a Community
You may also choose to create a new space for gifting in your neighborhood.
Host a Private Community in the App
We are rolling out Private Community features within the Buy Nothing app. If you’re interested in hosting, let us know and we’ll share the next steps.
Start a New Facebook Group
You also have the option to start a new Buy Nothing Facebook group for your area using our official guidelines:
